The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11478 that fits your 2020 BMW 5 Series 540i may not interfere with the foot-activated opening of your trunk, though we haven't had any confirmation either way. Generally, with the foot-activated feature on different cars and SUVs, a hitch won't totally block that feature, it will just mean you have to kick your foot to either side of the receiver (as opposed to the middle). That would be the expectation I would have for this hitch as well.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11412 is not a confirmed fit for either of those vehicles. Curt only confirms the fit on certain Volkswagen GTI and Golf models from 2015-2018. So I don't recommend installing it on your A3 Sportback. If you let me know your model year on that vehicle, I'm happy to assist with confirmed fits.
To remove hitch hardware, I recommend using PB Blaster or another penetrating oil and a socket wrench.

Thank you for the photo. The installation of Curt hitch # C11179 on your 2000 BMW 5 Series does say to "Note on either side of tire well formed metal 'rails' running fore/aft inside trunk/rear compartment.

I did a bit of research and could not find any wiring color diagrams for the 2002 BMW 5 Series. We have not had the opportunity to wire a 2002 525iT yet so we have not had the opportunity to do the testing and list the wiring colors that need to be used.
Your best bet is to use a circuit tester like, like part # 3808, to install the wiring kit # C59236 that you purchased and determine the correct taillight wires to splice to the converter wiring. The information that CURT Mfg. supplies... view full answer...
If your BMW has amber colored turn signal (according to my information, it does) you will need a converter. I would recommend the Hardwired Tail Light Converter, part # C59236.
The converter will combine the separate brake light signal and turn signal onto the same circuit, like your trailer is wired. There will be one circuit for the drivers side and one for the passenger. The converter kit includes a circuit tester, to help locate the correct circuits to install the converter.

The installation of CURT Trailer Hitch, # 11179, will be the same on your 2003 530i as it is in our video of a 2001. What makes this hitch installation time consuming is the fact that you will have to remove the rear fascia and do some drilling. This will have you going back and forth from under the car to the trunk area several times.
I would not say it is difficult, but it will take longer than the average bolt on hitch installation. I have included a link to the video and a link to... view full answer...
Since you have a 2001 BMW 530i just like what is in the install video I attached for the Curt Hitch part # C11179 the install process would be the exact same.
Since this hitch fits a few different variations of vehicles the install process can have slight variations. But since your vehicle is the exact same as the attached video vehicle it would be the exact same and would be the guide for you to use to remove the bumper.

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he stated that to install trailer hitch # 11498 on your 2007 BMW 5 series, you would need to cut or trim that bottom guide as needed to get the hitch in the proper position. If you can move it temporarily and then put it back in place with little or no modification, that is also permissible. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.
If you plan on doing some towing, the hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and clip. For a... view full answer...
